“Integrating Behavioral Health and Primary Care: Practical Skills for the Consultant Psychiatrist”
Workshop hosted by the American Psychiatric Association at the Institute on Psychiatric Services
Speakers: Drs. Jürgen Unützer, Lori Raney, John Kern and Anna Ratzliff
Description: The American Psychiatric Association will feature a course in Integrated Care for psychiatric consultants and other medical staff members at the Institute of Psychiatric Services meeting being held in San Francisco Oct 27 - 30, 2011. This half-day workshop will be offered from 8am – Noon at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis. The workshop will present a curriculum designed to assist medical staff members who wish to work in collaborative settings with primary care and prepare attendees for functioning along the collaboration continuum, which includes addressing mental health issues in primary care and co-morbid medical problems in mental health settings. IMPACT Care is more effective than standard care in managing depression among older cancer patients
Dr. Jesse Fann and co-authors found that the IMPACT program was feasible and more effective than usual care in treating depression in older cancer patients in diverse primary care settings. The results were published in a supplement of the Journal of General Internal Medicine on cancer survivorship care in primary care.
